Plug it in - Plug it in!!
I love love love! Using Studio Grade plug ins when I’m mixing monitors.
This makes the work flow so much easier and up’s the sonic quality to another level.Imagine making your live console sound like a Neve,Api,SSL or a hybrid version of them all..
Digidesign’s (Avid) Venue line makes it possible.
The plug in pictured above is the McDSP Channel G Compact.
This is an all in one channel strip containing a Compressor/Limiter, Filter Section and 4 band Parametric.
Channel G is a workhorse plug in for me in at my studio and at my gigs.
The “Compact” feature makes it possible to insert it on every channel without maxing out the processing on the console.
Channel G has such a smooth sounding Eq, the type that you can drive hard and still makes anything sound awesome no matter what much you cut or boost.
The Channel G Shines is in its emulations of analog gear -
E - SSL series E equalizer. Note the control ranges all match the original SSL console, and even the HPF and LPF sections will adjust their ranges to that of the SSL consoles.
G - Another popular SSL EQ, the series G, has substantially different shelf shapes than found on the E series.
N - based on the AMEK / Neve 9098i console, coupled with the vast library of measurements taken by McDSP.  McDSP has evaluated many original Neve units as well as re-makes. The shelf shapes are very much like the 9098i, while the parametric EQs employ much of the ‘smarts’ McDSP has come to understand about this important lineage of equalizers.
A - Think API 550 with 5 bands, more gain, and adjustable filters, and you have the A mode in Channel G EQ configuration. The proportional Q is modeled dead on, while the gain is extended to +/- 18 dB. The Q values track exactly to the originals up to 12 dB, and are then extrapolated to the new 18 dB level.
Go over to http://www.mcdsp.com/ and demo out Channel G compact as well as the full Channel G version.
